In my spring semester as a freshman student at FIU, I decided to go out of my comfort zone and take a theatre class. I used to be very timid, but since taking this course I learned valuable skills and learned to project my voice and speak with confidence. The class taught us about classical theatre, and we examined various plays to understand the principles that made these shows entertaining and compelling. Part of the requirement for this course was to work in a group to produce a five to fifteen minute recreation of a scene from a play. My group and I chose to recreate the song “Poor Unfortunate Souls” from the stage adaption of “The Little Mermaid”. We had different teams of people working together on different parts of the show. I worked with my group to create a budget of how much we wanted to spend on set design and props, and through this experience I learned so much about “stage magic” and how to work together to create something magical.
